When you are validating a schema or an XML document against a schema the error messages contain in general a code like the one you quote: > "derivation-ok-restriction.2.1.2" If you use the text part "derivation-ok-restriction" and add it as an anchor to the XML Schema Part1: Structures URL you will get the explanation of the reported problem, for instance in your case you get the URL: http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-1/#derivation-ok-restriction There look for the 2.1.2 clause.
