I agree.  Eliot has articulated the reasons why and how I can ensure that the
XML documents that I *will* use in my metadata search system can be validated
and the relevant XSDs validate.  

It seems to me that I just need to ensure that each XML document has
references to the nameSpaces and full URI references to the schemaLocations
of the version of the XSD that is being used for that XML document instance.

I can then use local copies of validated XSDs that I know about or download
and validate new ones.

Thanks again to all those who replied to my thread.  I love these list
servers.  They provide access so many specialists.  ;--)
